Popcorn is a staple snack in movie houses. With the advent of microwavable popcorn, these crunchy snacks have made their way directly into homes as well. Whether you're watching your favorite TV show or movie or reading a book, you can munch on your popcorn anytime you want to.
Unfortunately, popcorn is usually just flavored with salt, butter or cheese. If you have a sweet tooth, you can go for chocolate, caramel or vanilla flavored variants of this snack.
If you keep opting for such usual flavors, you may soon find yourself getting tired of munching on this crunchy snack. The good news is that there are various recipes you can try to give popcorn that much-needed "zing" and make them really tasty and flavorful treats. Below are some tips or recipes you can try to add more flavor to and make plain popcorn more delectable:
Spray popcorn with flavored cooking spray. There are various brands of flavored cooking sprays in the market today. Olive oil, butter, curry, and garlic are just some of the popular flavors you can go for. They can make plain popcorn taste better and they don't contain too much artificial flavors and seasonings as well.
Add sautéed garlic to the popcorn. Sauté garlic in olive oil, drizzle this over the popcorn and give the bag or container a good shake. Make sure that the oil is distributed properly over the snack. You can also consider adding some grated cheese on this recipe.
Mix in some curry and chipotle or chili powder. Combine 1/2 teaspoon of curry powder, 1/4 of teaspoon ground chipotle or chili powder, and 1/8 teaspoon of salt on a warm pan over a low flame. Whisk this mixture gently for 1 to 2 minutes or until the oil starts to bubble. Drizzle the mixture over cooked popcorn in a small bowl then toss well to coat evenly.
Add some cinnamon. If you want this snack to satisfy your sweet tooth, add some cinnamon. Make sure you mix the container or bag containing the popcorn and cinnamon thoroughly. If you want the cinnamon to stay on or cover the popcorn, you can spray the popcorn with a little cooking spray or some butter first.
Mix in some chocolate and cranberries. For another sweet take on this snack, mix melted dark chocolate chip, dried cranberries, and some salt. Pour this over the cooked popcorn. For a tastier snack, place the popcorn in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to harden the chocolate.
